Given today is St. Patrick’s Day, I thought I should get in the spirit and post something green! If you are looking for a quick, easy and believe it or not, tasty way to help alkalize your blood and reduce inflammation, then look no further.
If you have an autoimmune (AI) disease like I do, its best you avoid all alcohol, because it causes inflammation in your body which increases pain and swelling associated with many AI diseases. For those of you without AI, this drink might just be your saviour tomorrow.
Recipe makes approximately 30-35 fluid ounces of pure deliciousness!
Ingredients
- 1/4 of a Medium – large lemon, peel removed
- 1 Large handful of parsley
- 1 Large handful of kale
- 1 Large handful of baby spinach
- 1 Thumb-size piece of ginger, skin removed
- 1 Apple quartered
- 1 Large English cucumber
- 10 Trimmed stalks of celery
Method
- First clean, all of your vegetables and your apple well with a natural fruit and veggie cleaner *I tend to do bulk washing of all veggies and fruit the day I pick up the groceries, that way when I do need them they are G2G (Good to Go)
- Turn on your juicer and turn it to one of your lower settings *On my Breville Juice Fountain Multi-Speed I start with setting #3
- Place a lemon quarter into the chute and quickly cover it with the food pusher *If you don’t, watch your eyes
- Next place a large handful of parsley into the cute and gently press down with the food pusher until juiced
- Repeat step above with kale and baby spinach
- Turn your juicer speed dial to 4
- Gently place the cucumber in the cute and with firm pressure use the food pusher to juice the cucumber
- Next, turn the juicer speed dial 5
- Place the thumb-size piece of ginger, into juicer and quickly cover it with the food pusher
- Next, add your quartered apple piece by piece and use food pusher as you go
- Finally, place your 10 trimmed stalks of celery into the cute and press down slowly but firmly until juiced
- Voilà, your juice is ready
The only downside to juicing is cleaning the machine. All things considered though, its really not that bad but it does take at least 5-10 minutes to clean.
Do you love, hate or love to hate juicing? I never thought in a MILLION years that I would be juicing and enjoying it, N-E-V-E-R! What’s your opinion on juicing?
